You have a good affiliate product to market, and you want to use pay-per-click (PPC) ads. Good idea or bad? Well, it can be a good idea so long as you control your spending, and track your ads. And the next question is whether Google is the best place to advertise your affiliate products.
Where should you start? Google Adwords, which can be rather costly these days, or Yahoo Search Marketing, or MSN? Or would you be better with some of the minor PPC search engines?
Well, my experience is that the minor search engines generally have unresponsive viewers searching for free stuff. This is also the experience of at least two seasoned marketers I know. In other words, you do not get so many clicks, and few are buyers. Certainly, Google is a better place than these to advertise your affiliate products.
Google is good but you could pay too much
Among the others, Google Adwords definitely brings results, but so does MSN, although it has a poor website interface which is a pain to use, and which is usually slow. That is worth putting up with, though, because MSN's surfers are responsive, and you will pay less per click than with Google. You will not get so many clicks, though, simply because many more people uses Google than MSN.
I have not found Yahoo Search Marketing (that used to be Overture) less profitable than the other two, but that might depend on the product. It is worth trying all three, and you will find that you can get a $50 free start with Yahoo Search Marketing. But be warned: they will still make you deposit some cash with them, but hey, $50 advertising for free cannot be bad.
I would recommend that you use MSN and Google Adwords to advertise your affiliate products.
Whatever you do, though, make sure you set a daily limit, a limit on each bid, and put in a finish date for the ad. Ending the ad project can be a nuisance because if it is profitable, you have to start it all over again with some PPC search engines.
On the other hand, it stops you getting a huge bill for ads you had forgotten where running. A daily limit of $30 does not seem much, but that is $900 a month, and if you have five or six ads for affiliate products running you can soon spend a lot of money if you forget what is going on.

Is Google the Best Place to Advertise Your Affiliate Products?
Warning! Don't Buy that E-Book
By John Hartley
One of the biggest problems when you start out as an affiliate is to resist the urge to buy the latest e-book or video set that comes out. There is something coming out every week, and some of the e-books which were brought out a year ago are as good as some of these new ones. Save your money and don't buy that brand-new e-book about affiliate marketing programs.
Skip the lifestyle bit
When you look at a sales letter you MUST learn to skip all the rubbish telling you that if you buy this e-book you will be able to live the life of the rich, in a fabulous house with a couple of Ferraris, and working two hours a day. This e-book will not give you that.
First, you need to skip to the next section because it is not true. Most of these guys work 12-14 hours a day, albeit with some strutting of their stuff at seminars in nice places. Secondly, you already know that you started affiliate marketing to make money without working for someone else, and to get a few holidays or vacations, or just spending more time with your family without the stress that goes with a Job. So ignore this irrelevant stuff, yes, it really is irrelevant.
… and the graphs showing Clickbank earnings
Also, ignore all those graphs showing Clickbank earnings. These are not what you will earn, and conveniently ignore the fact that the earnings were obtained with a pretty hefty Adwords or other pay-per-click advertising campaign. It is easy to sell $5,000 of affiliate products a month. Just spend $10,000 on Adwords! I'm not saying they do this. However, they can certainly boost their advertising spend to boost sales in the knowledge that folk will buy lots of e-books when they see the gross figures!
The recent spate of video instruction products are much worse. Why? First, because they are long, and the important bits go so fast you can't make notes easily. Often, you miss them because the speaker, who is untrained in public speaking, is mumbling.
As a rule of thumb, the more videos there are, the less you should want to buy the product!
Find what this product does or gives you
So should you avoid all these new e-books and video sets about affiliate marketing? No. First, when you read a sales letter, concentrate on where it says what it actually does, or what information it actually gives you. You will find that in most cases this takes up quite a small part of the sales letter.
Then, you need to compare what you are doing in your affiliate business with what the e-books or videos are offering. Is it compatible? For example, if it is all about advertising on Adwords, and you are not doing that, are you ready to do it?
If it is a keyword tool to find keywords, do you actually need the tool? If you do a lot of keyword research, or need to, will this tool be better than Google's free tool, which of course, is based on the keywords people actually use at Google's search engine.
What's more, you will be told that each e-book is absolutely vital to your future. This is just not true. There are so many products or services in any niche that you can ignore a lot of them. But it is a good idea to read some sales letters to see what people are saying. Meanwhile, keep your credit card locked away in a drawer in another room!

What’s Google AdSense?
By Sunil Kumar
AdSense may be one of the fastest and easiest ways to monetize traffic to your web site whether you have products or services for sale or you simply provide free content to your visitors.
Simply stated, Google AdSense enables website operators to place some code on their site that connects to Google’s ad server content database and pulls keyword-relevant advertising onto the web pages. The webmaster gets paid a percentage of the fee that Google receives from the advertiser every time a visitor clicks on an ad. There is no charge for the webmaster to participate in AdSense. All costs are covered by the advertiser who participates in the AdSense sister program called AdWords.
Google’s sends out digital “robots” which use proprietary algorithms to parse the host web page and analyze the content in an effort to determine what keywords are relevant. It reports its findings back to Google’s ad server which then serves ads matching those keywords. Given that the entire process is automated, the “ad robots” do a pretty good job of getting the advertising content right most of the time.
The History of Google AdSense
Google AdSense has its roots in the old “Google Content-Targeted Advertising” program which they introduced back in March of 2003. Although this program was similar in concept to AdSense, there was no automated way of participating. Each webmaster negotiated a deal directly with Google, and websites that served less than 20 million page views per month were not welcome to participate.
As Google grew, they began to see how much money they were leaving on the table by excluding the smaller sites, which greatly outnumbered the sites serving over 20 million hits, that were willing to serve other people’s ads. Their answer to that problem was AdSense which has no minimum traffic requirements and is open to all sites meeting Google’s content and decency requirements.
How much can you make running Google AdSense?
The answer to that question depends upon three factors:
1. How much traffic your site draws
2. How many visitors click on your ads
3. How much those ads pay per generated click
With some ads paying as much as $5 or more, it’s possible that you can generate a serious income with AdSense. There are relatively well documented cases of some people earning as much as $500 per DAY and more. Numbers like that are rare exceptions however. Even so, there is no reason why you can’t earn somewhere around $1,000 per month, or more, once you get the hang of it.
How to get started using Google AdSense
Make a visit to Google’s AdSense Site (https://www.google.com/adsense/) and sign up. Make sure that you read their Acceptable Use Policy and that you follow their content requirements. Google has their own “AdSense Police” who will have no problem booting you out of the program if you fail to walk the line.
Using Google AdSense on your site is like collecting free money. There’s no reason not to do it and potentially thousands of dollars worth of reasons to do it.

How Many Different Forms of Promotion Do You Use?
By Sean Rasmussen
Whatever stage you are at with your online marketing ventures, promoting them is a key part of how successful they will eventually be.
What's more, the act of promotion is a constantly evolving entity - it's not something you should do once and then forget about. If you drop the ball even for a week or two, you'll soon notice the effect it has on your sales and bottom line, which we all know equates to your profits.
Most people recognise the connection between how much they promote their wares and how much money they make as a result. But what about the methods they use? Ask yourself this question - are you stuck in a rut with your advertising?
It's a fact that most people develop promotional methods and sources they are happy with, and then stick to them. After all, why change what is already working?
That's a fair point, but we shouldn't become complacent. You should always try out new ways of advertising, and new places to advertise in. For example, it's fairly usual to plan a huge advertising blitz every time you launch a new product.
But does that blitz include writing and sending out press releases?
If it doesn't you could be missing out on a huge untapped audience who might be interested enough in your product to buy it. The beauty of press releases is that they only cost you the time it takes to write them. You can invest in the services of a company who will distribute it for you, but this can be done by you if you can spare the time.
Similarly, you might always advertise your products by using classified adverts available on a certain number of websites. Now while these websites might always produce good results for you, why not add a few others to the mix? You can still use the ones you've come to rely on, but by expanding your vision you could pull in even more customers.
We all have our favourite forms of promotion, but it does pay to think big and not stay with the same old places we've come to rely on over time. This is where an investment of time can pay huge dividends. Spend an hour or two surfing the net in search of other good sources of advertising - especially free advertising, which does have its place even if you have a large promotional budget - and add a few possibles to your list of advertising sources.
And don't forget your business acquaintances - they probably know of sources of advertising that have worked well for them, and may be willing to share them with you.
In the end, a crucial part of growing your business lies in developing your promotional efforts. The online world is forever changing, and your favourite advertising places today may not exist tomorrow. That is the key reason why you constantly need to be looking at new places to promote yourself and your business.
It's all about protecting your current and future sales - and therefore your livelihood.

How Much Do You Think You Can Earn Online?
By Sean Rasmussen
You're right. However much you thought about in answer to the question above, you're probably right.
If that has shocked you, then you may well be grateful for that shock in the months and years to come. That's because people tend to achieve what they think they can achieve.
Let's think about this a little more closely. Suppose you had a goal of earning $10,000 a year from your internet marketing ventures. That's a good goal to have. It's a reasonable amount - it would certainly make a difference to your life when you add it to the income you receive from your regular job.
But you're aiming low. Why not aim higher?
Let's say you have a goal of earning $100,000 a year from your internet marketing efforts. Now that isn't a reasonable amount - it's a life changing amount. It's an amount of money that would probably enable you to quit your job and work for yourself the whole time.
That's freedom.
Now which amount - $10,000 or $100,000 - ignites the most passion in you? I'm guessing it's the larger figure, am I right?
You need to understand that whatever you really want to achieve, you will achieve. So why want a small amount? Why not change your life? The internet is packed with opportunities; it's packed with the potential to change the life of anyone and everyone who is prepared to put in the hard work to achieve their dream income.
It really is true.
So figure out a strategy. Figure out how much you really want to earn, and then work out what skills and talents you have that will help you get there. It won't happen overnight, but it can and will happen if you keep working at it.
The beauty of the internet is that it enables you to set up multiple income streams. You can explore different ways to get to your income goal. Stay open minded and keep trying new things until you find a combination that suits you.
Developing your own niche in which to operate is an excellent way of taking a step closer to your goal. Appealing to a niche audience and building a mailing list -- of names that you know will be interested in your niche subject -- is a powerful marketing tool to use in both the short and long term.
Whatever point you start from, make the effort to keep developing new sources of income that splinter off from that main point. Be prepared to keep working towards your goal, even when you go through stages where you don't receive any compensation for your efforts. It takes time to get the ball rolling, but once it starts you'll find it takes very little effort to keep that money coming in. Once that happens you can then start to set up more income streams, as this will add to the ones you already have.
The key to your level of success is ultimately you. It's that simple. So make sure you make the journey worthwhile.

Do You Know You Should Never Do These When Trying to Make Money Online?
By Jerry Leung
Most webmasters are working very hard in order to make money online. There are even webmasters who become very rich by building up their business online. One of the advantages of making money online is that you will have chances of making money without investing a lot of money. However, there is something that you should never do!
In fact, there are a lot of different choices for you to make money online. You can choose to join some affiliate programs and promote the affiliate products. There are a lot of people who earn a lot of money from it. On the other hand, you may also choose to join PPC programs such as Yahoo Publisher. There are pros and cons for each of these programs and you should try and test for the most suitable one for your.
As discussed, there are things you should never do. You may want to know what they are. Indeed there are some online schemes or programs you should never join or involve in. You will be wasting your time if you join these programs!
The followings are the schemes you should never involve in:
Paid Surveys: I bet you receive emails about paid surveys everyday. You may be tempted to try it out! However, the payout rates of these paid surveys are not very high. Completing these surveys is usually very time consuming. It is just not worth spending so much time on them. As a result, you should put your effort and spend the time on programs which can enable you to make reasonable amounts of money.
Lotto or free lotto: You will find a lot of lotto games out there. You will also receive tons of emails concerning free lotto. However, involving in these games is also a waste of time. You should put your effort on building your online business instead of joining these games.
Contests and instant games: This is just like the case of free lotto. It is not worth spending the time on them. There are also saying that no one has ever won these games. Although we cannot be sure if this is the truth, it will be better to stay away from these games in order to play safe.
Online casinos: We have to admit that casinos are for gamblers but not businesspeople. You are just gambling when playing on these casinos! Remember, you are trying to build up your online business. Gambling should not be something you take part in.

Guidelines That May Help You To Grow Your Affiliate Checks
By Matthew Meyer
As an affiliate, all that is required of you is to simply place the merchant's ad on your website. Then after that, you virtually do nothing but wait for anyone to click on the merchant's ad and later collect your profits. Easy, right? Well, not quite often. Many affiliates earn almost nothing from their affiliate programs simply because they do nothing. Remember that affiliate marketing is but another form of marketing, and you'll definitely need to market your merchant's product for you to earn something.
Successful affiliates in any affiliate program simply don't sit there and wait for money to come. Why? Because there is no money in simply sitting and waiting. If you want to be successful in affiliate marketing and if you want to continually grow your affiliate checks, you've got to do something. Think of ways on how to promote your merchant's business and products better. Think of ways on how to induce other people to click on the link or ad provided to you by your merchant. Think of ways on how to make your affiliate sales increase!
So if you're new in affiliate marketing and you try to follow the easy go lucky pit that most unsuccessful affiliate marketers follow, then you're definitely on the wrong track. But we're not advising you to stop right there. No. Rather, we want you to take some steps to make your affiliate program work better and gain more commissions for you. How? Here are a few guidelines that may help you to continually grow your affiliate checks:
* Become an expert on your affiliate product.
You can promote your merchant's product better if you know a lot of things about it. To become an expert, the best thing you can do is purchase your merchant's product yourself. This way, you can tell your customers about your first-hand experience using the product. You can even write a testimonial or a personal endorsement ad about it. But if any condition does not permit you to purchase the product, you can at least make a thorough research about it.
* Host your own website.
Or at least have a domain name that is short and easy to remember. You certainly wouldn't expect a visitor to remember a very long and incomprehensible URL. And if that's so, you also wouldn't expect him to visit your website any time soon. That means less traffic for your page and the less chance for your affiliate ads and links to be clicked.
It is also a good idea to create a private website and offer access to it to anybody who clicks on any of your affiliate ads. Visitors usually get interested with these private websites. Private websites also gives you a venue to promote your back-end affiliate products.
* Write your own affiliate ads.
Many merchants usually wouldn't mind if you write and design your own ads for their products, for as long as you ask permission from them and present them your ad before posting it on your site. This gives you a greater advantage over a lot of other affiliates who must be advertising the same affiliate products.
* Participate in chat rooms, discussion boards, and forums related to your product.
If you use to ignore them before, then it is time for you to start focusing your attention on them. You can start your own chat or join an existing chat related to your product. You don't have to promote your affiliate product at once, but find the chance to advertise and promote it as you go along. The same would be true for message boards, discussion boards and forums.
* Create a free ezine or newsletter.
Ezines and newsletters are periodical publications whose aim is to inform a group of people about a certain subject. In your ezines and newsletters, you don't always have to promote your merchant's product for this may greatly annoy your subscribers. Rather, find a way to insert your affiliate ads and links on some portions of the letter. Also, don't forget to promote your ezine or newsletter on your website.
These are but a few guidelines on how you can increase your affiliate sales and continually grow your affiliate checks. Sure there can be a lot of other tips that out there, and if you think they would work, we won't discourage you from following them. What's important is that you be able to find a way to: attract more traffic to your site, induce your visitors to click on the ads on your site, and be able to promote your merchant's products even outside the boundary of your website. If you can do these, there's no reason for you to fail in affiliate marketing.

All Affiliate Marketers Procrastinate
By David Smales
Did you know that unsuccessful affiliate marketers are unsuccessful because they procrastinate? Did you also know that successful affiliate marketers are successful because they procrastinate?
Let me explain the reasoning behind this phenomenon.
The truth is, all affiliate marketers procrastinate, and they tend to "put things off, or will do that later." This relates directly to our enjoyment factor of the task in which we are currently involved with.
The unsuccessful affiliate marketer starts off their day with good intentions and go off to their computer or desk, ready and willing themselves to become successful. They sit there and think of something that they want to do, and get started.
Time flies as they are enjoying themselves, but they reach a point where the task involves an unfamiliar procedure or detail. After a while they realise that the current task is tedious, mundane or too difficult. It then becomes very easy to say "I will do that later." They will then find something that is easier or more enjoyable to do.
Therefore, they stop doing the current activity and do something more enjoyable, hence they are procrastinating the initial task. This is fine, until the now current task involves something that they do not fully understand or are unable to complete. They then say to themselves "I will finish this off later" and move on to something else. A pattern is now evolving, they are now procrastinating the second task of the day, and so on.
At the end of the day, they have achieved very little. None of their tasks have been completed and they are no further forward, yet they have been busy all day!
Whereas, a successful affiliate marketer will arrive at their computer or desk, knowing exactly what they need to achieve that day, and they get started.
Everything is running smoothly until the task involves an unfamiliar procedure or detail. This is now the time to procrastinate! They stop whatever they are doing, and say to themselves "I will finish this off later." They then make a decision. They either decide to research the problem in order to resolve it themselves, or they find someone that can solve the problem for them. They do not proceed any further with their current task or start a new task, until a solution to the problem is forthcoming. They know that their task will not be completed until "that problem" has been resolved.
With the problem resolved, they return to the initial task and continue on to its completion.
At the end of the day, they have achieved more than expected, because they have learnt a new method or procedure. Their tasks have been completed. They are now prepared and ready to start bringing in financial income with the completed project.
At this point, they sit back and have a read through their "to do list" to see what is the next thing they are going to do. Then they say "I will do that tomorrow."
Successful affiliate marketers procrastinate in a positive manner, unsuccessful affiliate marketers just procrastinate.

Choosing Domain Names - 5 Quick Tips on How To Choose A Good Domain Name
By Lubano Lim
Choosing a good domain name can help you in your business. In this article, we shall go through 5 tips on how to choose a good domain name.
Tip 1: Choose a Meaningful Domain Name
If you are selling health supplements, you should choose "healthsupplements dot com" instead of "ilovepizza dot com" for obvious reason. Let say a person is looking for vitamin C pills; he is more likely to visit "healthsupplements dot com" instead of "ilovepizza dot com".
Choosing a meaningful domain name will also help you in your search engine ranking. For example, if you choose "healthsupplements dot com" and your webpage is also optimized (optimized means your webpage title, meta tags, keywords and content are relevant to one another) with the term health supplements, you will have a better ranking for the term health supplements.
Tip 2: Length of the Domain
Should you choose a short or long domain name? Most people may argue that a shorter version is better than the longer version. Well, I agree. A shorter domain name is usually easier to remember. Of course, it depends on the situation.
For example, "IAmADatingCoach dot com" is a better choice compared to "IAADC dot com" since the former is easier to remember. Yet, you won't want to choose "IAmADatingCoachWhoHasTaughtThousandsOfStudentsSuccessfully dot com". People won't remember such a long name and even if they do, it would be a chore to type.
Tip 3: Avoid Trademark Names
You should avoid domain name that looks too similar to terms like eBay and Amazon. Registering these domain names can get you into trouble. You may be forced to sell the domain name. In the worst case scenario, you may even be sued. If you are unsure, it is always a good idea to consult a lawyer, especially if you are planning to start a long term lucrative business.
Tip 4: Try Not To Use "_"
If possible, try not to register a domain name with hyphen (or underscore – editor). Imagine you have a domain name "eat_pizza dot com". There is a very high possibility your potential customer will end up in "eatpizza dot com" instead. Most people don't type hyphen in the url.
Tip 5: Use .com Whenever Possible
".com" is the most popular domain name extension. Most people will try .com first whenever they are searching for a website. Unless your website has a special purpose, try to register a .com.
Special Case:
If you are in education, then you may want to register a .edu extension. If your site is geared towards providing information, then .info may be a good choice. However, in most cases, a .com will be a good choice.

Understanding the Power of Keyword Variations
By Sean Rasmussen
Keywords are a vital part of any type of content you write, regardless of whether it's a promotional article to drive traffic to your website, or information on the website itself.
Keywords will help the search engines find and rank your content when people search for those keywords, and over time just this one aspect of the writing you do will bring you plenty of new traffic - not to mention potential customers and clients.
But it's not just the keywords themselves that are important - it's how you use them.
Every time you sit down to write an article to send to the online article directories, or to put on your own website, you should be making a list of the keywords you want to include within that article.
The best way to do this is to think about the types of things people will search for, and try to include as many relevant ones as you can in your content. Remember, keywords need to be sprinkled throughout your text and not overused. Somewhere in the region of one to three per cent of any piece of writing should be in the form of keywords and their variations.
So if you are writing a piece on internet marketing, you might use the following keywords:
- Internet marketing
- Online marketing
- Website marketing
In time and with practice you will be able to write content more quickly. You'll also find it easier to incorporate keywords more readily, without struggling to make it sound natural. Most of the time keywords are fairly easy to insert into your text, as the piece of writing will be about that general subject anyway, but it pays to be aware of how you are using them.
The search engines like and pick up on keywords in general, but if it deems that their inclusion in a piece of writing renders it unreadable - in other words, it makes no sense and is basically gibberish - then it will penalise your site as a result.
Fortunately this isn't something the majority of us need to worry about. The only way you can really do this is if you were to fill a paragraph with nothing but keywords in the hope of getting a higher ranking. This is known as keyword spamming and it won't get you anywhere.
In short, don't just pay attention to keywords when you are writing. Think about the various combinations and variations people use when searching for what they need, and try to accommodate as many of them as possible.
By doing so you will reach far more people and your website will enjoy more traffic as a result. If you do this on a regular basis, your search engine ranking will start going in the right direction - and that's up.

Higrade Is The Best Route For Top 10 Google Ranking And Search Engine Traffic
By hardeep
The methods employed to increase your search engine rankings may seem like rocket science to you, so you have probably avoided dealing with this issue. I am here to tell you - the time has come to face your website! A high search engine ranking for your website is so essential that if you have the slightest desire to actually succeed in your business, there is no way you can continue to avoid this issue.
At least 85% of people looking for goods and services on the Internet find websites through search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN. The idea of optimizing your pages for high search engine rankings is to attract targeted customers to your site who will be more than likely to make a purchase. The higher your page comes up in search engine results, the greater the traffic that is directed to your website. That's what search engine optimization is about.
You can immerse yourself in all the technical information available online to figure out how to optimize your web pages to achieve higher rankings. Or you can look at a few simple items on your pages, make some small adjustments, and most likely see improved rankings quite rapidly. The first item you should examine is the title bar on your homepage.
The title bar is the colored bar at the top of the page. Look at the words that appear there when you access your home page. To increase search engine rankings, the words on your homepage's title bar should include the most important keywords or phrases, one of which would include your company name.
Then click on all your links and examine the title bars on the pages you access. Each title bar on every single page of your site should contain the most important keywords and phrases taken from the page itself. However, avoid very long strings of keywords, keeping them to six words or less. Avoid repeating keywords more than once in the title bars, and make sure that identical words are not next to each other.
The next item to put under your microscope is your website content. Search engines generally list sites that contain quality content rather than scintillating graphics. The text on your site must contain the most important keywords - the words that potential customers will be typing into search engines to find your site.
Aim to have around 250 words on each page, but if this is not desirable due to your design, aim for at least 100 carefully chosen words. If you want to achieve a high ranking on search engines, this text is essential. However, the search engines must be able to read the text, meaning that the text must be in HTML and not graphic format.
To find out if your text is in HTML format, take your cursor and try to highlight a word or two. If you are able to do this, the text is HTML. If the text will not highlight, it is probably in graphic form. In this case, ask your webmaster to change the text into HTML format in order to increase your search engine rankings.
Next we come to what is called meta tags. I know this sounds like something out of science fiction, but it is really just simple code. Many people believe that meta tags are the key to high search engine rankings, but in reality, they only have a limited effect. Still, it's worth adding them in the event that a search engine will use meta tags in their ranking formula.
To find out if your page is set up with meta tags, you must access the code. To do this, click the "view" button on the browser menu bar, and select "source." This will pull up a window revealing the underlying code that created the page. If there are meta tags, they usually appear near the top of the window. For example, a meta tag would read: meta name="keywords" content=. If you do not find code that reads like this, ask your webmaster to put them in. This may not do much for your search engine rankings, but any little boost helps.
Lastly, we come to the issue of link popularity. This is a factor that is extremely important in terms of search engine rankings. Almost all search engines use link popularity to rank your website. Link popularity is based on the quality of the sites you have linked to from your links page.
If you type in "free link popularity check" in a popular search engine, the search engine will then show you what sites are linked to your site. In the case that there aren't many sites linked up to yours, or that the sites that are linked up have low search engine rankings, consider launching a link popularity campaign. Essentially, this entails contacting quality sites and requesting that they exchange links with your site. Of course, this requires checking out the rankings of the websites you want to link up with. Linking to popular, quality sites not only boosts your search engine ranking, but it also directs more quality traffic to your website.
Search engine rankings are extremely important for a successful Internet marketing campaign. Before you go out and hire a search engine optimization company, try taking some of the simple steps listed above, and see if you can't boost your rankings yourself. Don't ever ignore this all-important factor in Internet marketing. Remember, the higher your search engine ranking, the more quality customers will be directed your way.

Five Useful Tips For Web Designing
By Ranju Kumar
Web Designing is to create a unique online visual and user experience that will support your prospective trades to spend time on your site and ultimately to lead them through the customer acquisition process. A web design is meant to be a platform for you or your company to showcase and communicate important information to people online.
When it comes to your website, more concentration should be paid to every minute aspect to make sure it performs optimally to serve its purpose. Here are 5 useful tips to observe to make sure your website performs well.
1) Do not use splatter pages
Splatter pages are the first pages you see when you arrive at a website. They usually have a very attractive image with words like "welcome" or "click here to enter". In fact, they are just that -- attractive vases with no real purpose. Do not allow your visitors have a cause to click on the "back" key! Give them the value of your site up front without the splatter page.
2) Do not use extreme banner advertisements
Even the least net savvy people have trained themselves to ignore banner advertisements so you will be wasting valuable website real estate. Instead, give more valuable content and weave relevant affiliate links into your content, and let your visitors feel that they want to buy instead of being pushed to buy.
3) Have a easy and clear navigation
You have to give a easy and very straightforward navigation menu so that even a young child will know how to use it. Stay away from difficult Flash based menus or multi-tiered dropdown menus. If your visitors don't know how to navigate, they will leave your site.
4) Have a clear indication of where the user is
When visitors are deeply absorbed in browsing your site, you will want to make sure they know which part of the site they are in at that moment. That way, they will be able to browse relevant information or navigate to any section of the site easily. Don't ever perplex your visitors because confusion means "abandon ship"!
5) Do not use audio usually on your site
If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your site, reading your content, you will want to make sure they're not annoyed by some audio looping on and on your website. If you insist on adding audio, make sure they have some control over it -- volume or muting controls would work fine.

Build a Profitable Subscriber List
By Sudhir.K.Sharma
Why is it some people are incredibly successful at utilizing the power of the Internet in their marketing while others can’t seem to figure out the winning formula?
How often do entrepreneurs and salespeople look for that next magic formula to build their business and increasing revenues, but never quite making any of it work? Many people make it much more difficult to succeed than it need be while others know exactly what to do … and they do it.
Ask anyone who has effectively integrated the use of the Internet into their overall marketing strategy and they will tell you success in building your business, both online and off, is about systems. Simple as that.
Developing and utilizing systems is nothing new. Yet, the great search for the pot-of-gold at the end of the rainbow and getting-rich-quick continues.
The place you’ll find more gold than virtually anywhere else is in doing something many people just don’t find appealing. It is in developing and maintaining a solid database. Unfortunately, many people don’t find database management “sexy” enough. So they continually buy into that next “secret formula.”
Fact is, with a well-groomed database you can increase your revenues and decrease your marketing costs. You can build customer relations and keep your name fresh in the minds of your market by keeping in touch. This establishes excellent position within your market.
Most people would be amazed at how simple it is to build an incredibly profitable database by applying a few simple strategies. Remember, simple is not always easy. It will take time, commitment and focus.
Bigger is not necessarily better when it comes to your database. Depending on your industry and what you sell you may be well served to focus on the few dozen or few hundred who want to buy from you rather than thousands who couldn’t care less about what you offer.
On the other hand, there will be situations where building a massive list is exactly what you need to do. Especially if you have mass quantity products you are selling at a very low price. Then you may want to go for the numbers.
Driving traffic to your site is an ongoing process as is building and maintaining your database. If you are serious about using the Internet in your marketing you need to lay the groundwork to optimize your opportunities.
- Develop a fully operational web site
- Have a way to capture contact information such as a sign up form
- Give people a reason for leaving their contact information such as an Ezine, free report or eBook, an article of interest to your target market or anything that is of benefit to the reader
- Develop a series of content driven messages that address your customers’ needs
- Keep your name in front of your market consistently without being annoying
- Write and distribute articles to various online resources pertinent to your market
- Create a resource box containing your web address
- Do not make the articles a hard sell. Rather, provide information that positions you as a resource before you are a vendor
- Develop a list of forums and discussion groups you can participate in
- Commit to the long-term.
By focusing on developing a solid database and providing incredible value to your market you can and will achieve success in your business. Guaranteed!

A New Way to Create Digital Product Fast
By Bhavna
During last few months, there is a new kind of hot product rights available for internet marketers. It is called "Private Label Rights", or "Source Code Rights".
So what is "Private Label Rights"?
Although there are small variations between products, the basic requirement to define a "Private Label Rights" product is - by owning the rights you are able to rebrand the product using your name and market the product as YOUR OWN creation.
Actually this is not a new thing. Famous Writers hire ghostwriters to write for them. Software and Script Company hire programmers to write programs and scripts. And this time you pay someone to get the rights of using other's creation as yours, it is just similar.
Then why owning "Private Label Rights" can be profitable?
Let me compare these new rights with very similar rights - "Resale Rights". By owning resale rights, you are able to resell the product as many as you can, and collect all money from every sale you make. However, you are not able to change the name of the product creator, so your customers know it is not your creation, and may become the original product creator's customers and purchase other products from him/her directly. This means you may lose profit by losing a customer and having a new competitor.
On the other hand, by owning a "Private Label Rights" product, you are the product creator in customer's eyes. This makes you more respectful and more professional. Your customers will be more likely to purchase from you.
But is there any disadvantage of owning a "Private Label Rights" product?
Yes there is one thing you must know when owning a "Private Label Rights" product. The rights may not be exclusive. That is, you may not be the only rights owner. The actual product creator may sell the rights to many people including you. Therefore, to make your final product becomes unique, I recommend you do extra customization to your product, for example, change the product name, design a new cover, add extra words and features, etc.
Final Words:
Creating an original product not just requires solid knowledge and good writing skills, it is also time consuming and expensive. "Private Label Rights" is sure an excellent way for small business owners and home business people to have their own product fast and easy. And if you are using them correctly, it is highly possible to make you more money, increase your reputation, website traffic and sales.

Designing Your Site For The Search Engines
By Balwinder Singh
When you design a website, it's easy to focus on what your visitors are going to see. What you have to realize, though, is that you're going to have another kind of visitor with a completely different agenda: they're not going to be looking at your pretty logo and they're not going to be passing judgment on your background color. What they're looking for is the content and structure of your page.
They're the search engine spiders, and they are in control of probably the largest section of your traffic. You need to please these spiders if you want your site to be successful. Here's how.
Make Your Structure Clear.
Resist the temptation to lay your page out in non-standard ways: you want it to be very clear to the search engine where the navigation is, where the content is, and where the headings are. As a rule, put navigation first in your page. Always use the heading tags (h1, h2, etc.) for headings and sub-headings.
Avoid using generic span and div tags and only making things clear to the user through CSS font sizes: instead, use every 'semantic' HTML tag that applies to your content. If you're quoting someone, use the block quote tag; if you're posting program code, use the code tag. Search engines love this.
Keep Keywords Consistent.
It's not usually worth deliberately saturating your content with keywords in hope of a higher search ranking – the engines have pretty much wised up to this tactic – but do make sure that your keywords appear consistently when they occur naturally. For example, for these articles, I have stuck with 'website' throughout, as suddenly writing 'web site' instead would bring down my rankings.
HTML and JavaScript.
It's worth noting that search engines read HTML, but they don't, in general, read JavaScript. That means that using JavaScript to insert text into your page is a bad idea if you want search engines to see the text. On the other hand, you might want to have just the text in HTML and insert all the other parts of the page with JavaScript: this will tend to make your page appear more focused, although you should be careful not to insert navigation links this way if you want the search engines to follow them.
Use Meta Tags.
Yes, Meta tags are out of fashion, and search engines pay no attention to them any more when it comes to ranking your site, but they're still important in one way: the Meta description tag is still often used to decide what text search engines' users see when they find your site in their results! This can be just as important as the ranking itself – write something here that will look useful to the searcher, and you're more likely to get them to click-through. Don't forget that, while search engines are just machines and algorithms, the end result of it all does involve a human decision: to click, or not to click?
Avoid Splash Pages.
You might think it's a great idea to have a 'splash' page displaying a full-page version of your logo (or an ad) to every user who arrives at your site, but search engines really hate that. Using this trick will get you ranked far lower than you would usually be, so you should avoid it – it's annoying to visitors anyway.
Include Alt Tags.
Any time you use a graphic, include alt text for it – especially if there is text in the graphic. Remember that, as far as search engines are concerned, all your graphics might as well just be big black boxes. Test by removing all your graphics and seeing if your content remains relatively intact. If it doesn't, then you'll be turning search engines away.
Finally, Write Great Content.
The key with modern search engines (and, at the same time, the thing you have least control over) is how many people decide to link to your page from their page. How can you make more people link to you? Make your content useful. Make it something they'll want to quote on their blogs. Content is more King than it's ever been, and the best way to design for search engines is to make your content really stand out.

Use A Reputable SEO Firm That Offers Proven Ethical Methods
By John P Orange
Large firms can afford to dedicate several full time staff members to a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) program, or write five-figure cheques every month to out-source the project to a specialized SEO company. While many small companies don’t have that luxury, there are companies such as Bubbila Search Marketing that provide superb SEO programs at affordable prices, programs that deliver results.
Any company can realize a decent amount of success in their SEO efforts if they follow standard guidelines. Improving your Search Ranking can have a very significant impact on your bottom line. The higher your Search Engine Rankings, particularly if you appear on the first page of Google, Yahoo and MSN, the more traffic you will see on your web site, increasing your potential to turn that traffic into revenue.
We would like to warn you about highly questionable SEO practices some firms use. While these may have short term benefits, they are ultimately destined for failure, and at a high price that may include de-listing of a web site by search engines! Tactics such as cloaking, keyword stuffing, doorway pages, or invisible text or links are practices that should never be used by your site.
Bubbila recommends that you avoid any firm that suggests you use any of those approaches at any time. SEO is not a science, there are no sure-fire ways to get top Rankings. All of the top search engines guard their Page Ranking algorithms very carefully. They do this to prevent people from artificially modifying their sites to get inappropriately high Search Engine Rankings.
Any firm that tells you they know how to guarantee you top Rankings is trying to take advantage of you. Reputable SEO firms will always recommend that you follow widely known practices used in optimizing your web site design, and include appropriate content and keywords in your pages. This will help the Search Engine crawlers, which the Search Engines use to locate and evaluate your site content.
Reputable SEO firms will also advise you to implement a comprehensive linking strategy, which can significantly improve your Search Engine Rankings.
10 WIDELY USED PRACTICES
(01) Focus on writing compelling content for humans, not for search engines.
(02) Use relevant title tags on each page.
(03) Add meta description and keyword tags.
(04) Keep page content on the shorter side, but make sure to still completely communicate a full idea. Don’t use 800 words for something that requires only 500. Longer content should be broken up into separate pages with keyword-laced title tags.
(05) Make sure that your Web pages have correct HTML coding. Use a validation tool such as the W3C Markup Validation Service to check each page’s syntax.
(06) Search engines tend to prefer sites with more than a handful of pages. If your site has fewer than 10 pages, add one Web page of content today. Even if it has more than 10, consider adding more: search engines love sites with regularly updated content.
(07) Use Wordtracker or Keyword Elite to find the most common search keywords for your topic. Use those words (and variants) on your new pages.
(08) Explore Google’s Webmaster Tools area. Create a sitemap and register it there.
(09) Use h1, h2, etc. tags instead of font tags for your site’s headlines.
(10) Request one new link from a Web directory or other Web site related to your topic.

Need A Website? You Have 3 Options
By karam
When it comes to building a website, most individuals and small business owners think you either have to do it yourself or hire someone to do it. Web builder software is often the better option for this group by far.
Even if you're a seasoned web professional, you should know what web builder software can offer private individuals and small businesses. Designers regularly waste time fielding inquiries from small-time website owners who don't realize the time, effort, and therefore cost involved in making a website from scratch. Or your brain may be picked endlessly by a would-be developer. Recommending a good web builder program is a great way to help this group -- you can even monetize these non-prospects by reselling web builder software or referring it as an affiliate.
The 3 Web Design Options
- DIY (design it yourself), usually using software such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage.
- Pay someone else to design it.
- Use a "website builder" that includes everything you need and builds the website based on a setup wizard that asks questions about your website goals.
Most people just stumble into one of these three options without really comparing. In fact, if someone is even considering whether to try to do it themselves, hire a pro, or use a website builder program, it's extremely likely they really do need to start with a website builder program. After all, with the small investment required by web builder software, you can easily decide to go the DIY or professional design route later. But the money and time spent on professional services or DIY cannot be un-spent.
If you don't have the web design skills that would lead you to make your own website without questioning, or the budget to hire a designer just as easily, your time, money and other resources are probably better spent on other aspects of your website -- such as promoting it, planning it, or getting content for it.
Website Options Comparison
Cost
Cost of software (Dreamweaver, the most popular, runs about $300) + many hours of your life -- what is your time worth?
Web Designer: $500-$5000
Website Builder: $100-200 (if a software package); $15-40/month (if a subscription service)
Time
DIY: Depending on your skill level, a week to a few months.
Web Designer: A few weeks till completion (but little time on your part).
Website Builder: Five minutes to an hour (depending on how much you want to play with the options).
Other Considerations
Graphic Design: Most people who build their own websites use graphic design templates, or at least ready-made graphics. But there's still the problem of how to bring the elements of the design together into an attractive whole.
Web Designer: If you want to be taken seriously, a graphic designer will go a long way. Still, many people manage to sabotage the designer's work with too many demands. Also, some designers are really programmers rather than graphic designers, and will use templates anyway. In the end, though, the biggest drawback is cost: graphic designers can do it better, but can you afford them?
Website Builder: The advantage of a website builder over DIY templates is that the builder will save you the time of coding the website to stitch all the parts together.

What To Look Out For When Hiring a Ghostwriter
By Jo Han Mok
One option in creating an info product is to pay someone to create a product for you. There are tons of websites out there where you can easily find someone to do this. For many, having their name on a best seller is simply not as important as having a buck in their wallet. They're willing to forgo the name recognition, and often they do so for what seems like very little money.
These writers are known as "freelancer" or "ghost writers". Remember, though, that even if you end up hiring someone to create your product for you, you will still have to do the initial research to come up with the idea for your product. Only then can you hire someone to create it.
At many of the sites available online to find a ghostwriter, all you do is register as a member (usually for free) and you are allowed to post your project for freelance creators to see. The secret here is to make your product sound like it will be the next New York Times best seller. You want to stimulate interest among the freelancers so that they will bid against each other causing your cost to decrease. Again, you will want to be creative here.
Are there other ways that you can compensate a ghost writer other than by an up front fee? Perhaps a flat percentage of each copy sold? It would be unlikely that you would find someone who would do the work without any money paid up front, but you might be able to get the cost reduced if you can offer something on the back end as a result of sales.
When working with any of the freelance sites, make sure that you clearly define the terms of your contract in your offer. For example, don't forget to discuss the intellectual property rights to your product. You want to make sure that you are the owner of these rights. If you are not careful here, you could find your ghost writer trying to get a copyright on your product!
You want to make sure that you check references of those who bid on your project, though. Ask to see samples of their prior work. Of course, they usually can't tell you what products they have "ghostwritten" as this would violate their prior business arrangements. (Think about it, do you want them blabbing that they were the "brains" behind your product?)
So, respect them if they can't tell you. Simply ask them to see SOMETHING that they have done in the past and make sure that their work is up to your standard.
To get an idea of how to work with a ghost writer, go to any of the freelance sites and scroll through the projects that are already posted by category. This will also let you see approximately how much you should expect to spend for your project as well.
One other note about working with a ghostwriter. Make sure that you have a "Work For Hire" contract in writing. Either electronically or in hard copy. This is important so that you can prove that you own the copyright if this should ever become an issue. You can certainly find sample agreements in Google that you can use.

Internet Marketing - Oh So Attractive!
By Konrad Braun
Internet marketing seems to be appealing to a good number of people. When you look at the reasons behind it, it makes a lot of sense. The first thing most people think about when they hear "internet marketing" is... financial freedom, no boss, working from home, and best of all, having all the free time in the world.
Now, let’s just say, that is not always the case. First off, to achieve incredible success online, it will require an incredible amount of effort on your part. When you were younger, your mother most likely always reminded you that nothing in this world comes for free. Well... the truth is, she could not have said it better!
Success does not just happen. Sure, some win the lottery, but guess what... the rest of us have to work for it. You see... the law of cause and effect is universal. You want to see extra ordinary success, you better prepare to back it with some extraordinary energy.
Look at internet marketing as you would at a lotion comercial. The model looks great, her skin is smooth and boy she's hot. Little do you know about the number of hours that were spent on her putting on the right makeup, taking and retaking different poses and shots, only to send everything photoshop perfectionist who works the whole scene over, picture by picture, before any of it ever makes it on the comercial.
Every dimple and every not so smooth spot gets worked over with a photoshop brush and it is hard to believe, but by the time you see the commercial, not half of the actual image is left.
Hundreds of hours were spent devoloping a ten second commercial. That is crazy, but think about it...
Isn't that the same with internet marketing? You are shown this great picture of what money has done for other internet marketers, but little do you know that thousands upon thousand hours of hard work went in to their great success. It did not just happen overnight!
On a positive note, you can do it. The only thing holding you back is you, your will power and your desire to make it. Nothing is impossible for those that believe and do something about it.
If you develop the right mindset towards internet marketing, and are taking massive action, doing what it takes to succeed, you will become unstoppable; and my friend, you are destined to incredible wealth and success.
First the command, then the sacrifice, and then the glory!

Website Promotion - How Effective Is Directory Submission?
By Jim Olivero
Directory Submissions are a good way and one of the simplest ways to receive inbound links to build link popularity for your site which will help your Web site rank higher in the search engines. It is the best and easiest way of creating link popularity and it's almost free. Search engines value one way links the most and Directory Submission provides you with those links.
The Main Benefits Of Directory Submission
- New websites indexed by the search engines - If your site is newly launched and yet to be crawled by the search engine spiders, directory submission is the first and foremost thing that you should do.
- One of the most important benefits of directory submission is the visibility enhancement of websites, which is why website owners employ this technique which has the potential to improve search engine rankings.
- As a result of directory submission, your website will be indexed regularly since your site will be found easily by crawlers. In other words, directory submission is directly linked to SEO.
- Thus, the one way links provided by directory submission, which are considered more valuable than reciprocal links, will enhance your search engine rankings.
- Another benefit of directory submission is that you will be able to target several keywords rather than being limited to your website title. Therefore, you could consider traffic as another benefit of directory submission, though not as important as indexation or one way links.
- Links in a directory submission is deemed reliable by search engines because a person actually reviews the content of your site to determine its quality.
Mode Of Submission
- Manual & Auto Submission - Manual submission method is arguably a better submission mode as compared to the latter.
- However, recent research has shown that more and more cutting-edge auto submission software seems to be ready to challenge the notion that manual submission so-called a better accurate of submission method.
Considerations
- Fast Submission - This is recommended for "older" sites or domains, which has been online for more than a year.
- Slow Submission - You can have your website submitted to web directories but, you may delay the submission process by making it to be completed in a course of few weeks, or even few months to make it look more natural in the eyes of Google and other search engines. This kind of submission is usually known as SEO-Friendly submission.
Tips For Effective Directory Submission
- Check if the directory has already been index by major search engines.
- You may also like to also note how many pages are already indexed.
- Ensure the page rank and inbound links of the directory you are submitting. Certainly a higher page rank and link popularity directory is the best.
- If you are submitting for link building, do NOT submit to directories that uses the "nofollow" for their site listings.
- Do not just submit your niche keywords, but also include those high volume keywords as it may provide a good source of FREE web traffic.

How Do I Drive Traffic To A Brand New Website?
By Sudhir.K.Sharma
Every single day, more and more people upload brand new websites to the Internet. I don't have any figures but there must be hundreds of thousands of new pages being added daily (if not considerably more!)
The one thing that all of these new websites need in order to make their existence worthwhile is traffic, which leads me to one of the most common questions I am asked and the subject of this article:
'How can you generate traffic to a brand new website?'
Of course, there are a number of different answers to this question and what I would do myself is probably very different to what a completely new Internet entrepreneur would do. The reason I say this is that the first thing I do when launching a new site is make use of my existing website traffic by advertising the new site on my other established sites. In addition, I have the luxury of a large mailing list which I can use to drive traffic to the new site.
I appreciate that anyone starting out in online business won't have these options open to them (and in fairness, neither did I when I first started), so let's look at things from the beginning. Day one of your first website.....
It is a fact that the quickest and probably most effective way of bringing targeted traffic to your website is by paying for it. Now before you rush off and sink $50 into one of those '50,000 hits for $50' schemes, DON'T, this isn't what I mean. Those schemes are largely a complete waste of money. Even if you get the traffic that you are promised (as opposed to some software script visiting your site and pretending to be a visitor), it will not be targeted and therefore there is a very low chance that the traffic will generate sales. When I talk about buying traffic, I mean by using the pay-per-click services offered by most of the big search engines.
You probably already know the sort of thing I mean - for example Google Adwords. Pretty much any search on Google will display a list of adverts down the right-hand side of the page and these are all paid adverts. Every time you click on one of them, the advertiser pays Google a fixed amount which could be anything from 5 cents upwards (depending upon how competitive the keyword is).
Pay-per-click allows you to be very selective about which keywords your advert is shown for and this allows you to target your advertising perfectly. Other big names in the pay-per-click market include Overture, Espotting and Findwhat.
Now, before you all start emailing me and saying that you already knew about PPC, let me just say that I am well aware that people know about it. The problem (as I see it) is that people aren't using this type of service because of the fact that they don't want to spend any money on advertising. That's all well and good but the fact is that the Internet is getting more and more competitive each day and the chances of you building a successful website business from scratch without investing any money are tiny to say the least.
If you want to attract a decent level of traffic to a brand new website in a short period of time, it is almost a necessity that you use pay-per-click on one of the main search engines. If you don't, then the growth of your traffic levels will be painfully slow and inconsistent at best.
When I launched my very first websites I invested heavily in pay-per-click advertising. At one point, I was spending over $6000 a month on Google Adwords alone!!! Seriously I really was spending that much money. It was a constant battle to tweak the website sales copy and continue to test the advertisement text just to make sure that my sales were covering the advertising payments each month. At the time I was probably just about breaking even but buying traffic in this quantity meant that I was able to fine-tune my sales pages and start to build up a list of mailing list subscribers.
Once you have got to the stage where you know your sales pages are converting visitors into buyers, then you can start to gear up with other methods of getting traffic to your site - writing articles, linking strategies, viral methods (eBooks etc), using your eBay 'About Me' page, using your link as a signature when you post on forums etc. All of these methods will win you traffic (and in most cases it will be completely free) but it will take time for the traffic to build to a worthwhile level. If you rely solely on free traffic, you really will be building your business one hit at a time.
Of course, once the free methods of gaining traffic start to pay off, you can begin to wind down your paid methods, though you may not want to - after all, if you are earning more in sales than you are paying for your pay-per-click traffic, why stop it?
As your portfolio of websites grows, you will also be able to share the traffic around a bit by linking to your own sites and of course, if you are capturing your visitors email addresses, you will be building a mailing list of people interested in the products you are offering.
Like I say, I appreciate that the above may not be the ground-breaking secret that you were hoping for but as with so many things online, there really is no secret. Achieving success is simply about taking action and whilst you can succeed online by spending very little money, the chances are that you will succeed a lot quicker by making a bit of an investment. You don't have to be spending thousands of dollars a month as I was but any new business owner should be prepared to invest a few hundred dollars a month in order to get things off the ground....

Save Hours Every Week By Using a Duplicate Content Checker
By Andrew Shiveley
One of the more recent additions to the popular search engine algorithms is the duplicate content filter, which will eliminate all but one copy of a web page that contains identical content.
Many people call this a duplicate content penalty, but the word "penalty" is a bit of a misnomer in this instance. A penalty would imply that the ranking of your web page is simply bumped down in the search engine results and given a lower relevancy score, but this is not actually what happens. A duplicate content page is not just penalized but is completely eliminated from the search engine results, so using the term "filter" instead of penalty when describing duplicate content is much more accurate.
One of the many tools that bloggers and webmasters have access to is a duplicate content checker, and the topic of this article is how you can use a duplicate content checker to make sure that you can overcome the filter enacted by search engines, while you are also saving loads of time every week by not having to create a unique article from scratch every time you want to syndicate your content.
A popular business model that many webmasters and bloggers use is to write an article or a post and put it on their own website, and then take this same post and submit it to syndication feeds and article directories for increased exposure. Now you may not know it, but if you are doing this then you may not be increasing the exposure of your website by as much as you think.
Remember that the duplicate content filter will find a copy of a web page that it determines to be an original, which this is determined by which page is indexed first along with a few other factors such as the relevancy of the domain name, and then it will filter out all other pages with the same content. (Each major search engine keeps the exact methods that they use a secret, but there are a few common factors that remain the same with each one.)
So let's say that you write a detailed article on your website, and then you take this same article and submit it to article directories for syndication in order to increase your exposure. Well it will not be very long before Google, Yahoo, and other search engines find your article, and they will need to determine which page that contains this article is the original.
If your article is going out for syndication, there is a chance that a few of the big websites that are an authority in your industry will pick up this article and put it on their website. A website like this has a lot of link strength and typically has a relevant domain name, and there is a good chance that it will be more popular than your own website. So if the search engines find the copy of your article on this authority site before they find it on your site (combined with the link strength and Pagerank that authority sites tend to have), the search engines may brand the article on the other website as the original instead of your website.
It goes without saying that this is undesirable, because even if somebody were to search for the exact title of your article then they would be directed to your competitor's website instead of your own. A good way to make sure that this does not happen to you is to use a duplicate content checker and slightly re-write your article before you submit it for syndication so that it is not an identical copy.
A duplicate content checker will compare two articles side-by-side to determine by what percentage they differ, and if you are using this model of submitting the same articles that you put on your website then it would probably be a good idea to make sure that the version you submit is over 30% different. Using this type of tool will save you a lot of time because instead of spending 50 minutes coming up with a brand new article, you can spend only around 5 minutes to re-write your article and make sure that it is not considered a duplicate.
A tool like this will also display a few other key figures about your article such as keyword density which will allow you to make sure that your articles are optimized for certain search terms while still remaining readable and coherent.

7 Power Tips to JumpStart a Stalled Web Site
By Cathy Goodwin
You put up a website to attract clients for your professional service business. Maybe you even put up a sales letter - a solo web page designed to promote an information product, tangible product, or seminar.
And so far... nothing! No takers. No sign-ups for your ezine. What's going on?
(1) Get solid evidence that people want your product -- and will buy it online.
Even on eBay and craigslist, some products go unsold. Some markets don't buy online, download ebooks or listen to mp3 files: they shop in brick and mortar stores, buy books at Borders and listen to CDs.
(2) Make sure you have targeted traffic coming to your site.
If you have no traffic... well, there's your answer. But not all traffic is equally valuable. Your keywords, positioning or referral site may be attracting visitors who are outside your target market.
(3) Encourage each visitor to begin building a relationship with you.
Often visitors won't buy on a first visit. So you need to invite them to sign up for an ezine, an ecourse, or even a downloadable manual. Some people read my ezine for over a year before they buy from me.
(4) Showcase unique, meaningful benefits for your target market.
Many professionals focus on how they deliver the service instead of how clients feel about their new lives. And you need to tell readers why you're unique - why nobody else can make the same offer.
(5) Make it easy for your visitors to say yes.
Believe it or not, when visiting other people's sites, I often have to hunt around for an order form when I'm eager, even desperate, to get my hands on a product. Ask visitors to buy... and consider adding some bright red arrows to point them in the right direction.
(6) Create a sense of urgency.
Ideally, your product or service reaches readers by connecting to their pain and their toughest challenges. But you also need to suggest reasons for buying today - not next week, not later.
(7) Test... and test some more.
For example: test 2 or 3 versions of your headline. Sometimes a news-oriented headline actually works better than a sales-oriented headline or vice versa.
Test backgrounds. I once tripled sign-ups to my ezine by changing the background color.
Test the small stuff. Once I compared two google adwords ads. I changed the spelling of one word in the headline - from midlife to mid-life. The hyphenated version attracted 40% more clickthroughs. Go figure.
Bottom Line: Even when experts create your marketing message, you need to keep evaluating the effectiveness of your marketing materials, especially your website. The Internet gurus share one passion: testing and revising. They're constantly enhancing their sites and their messages. And the rest of us need to do the same.

Reciprocal Links - Good for SEO & Google Ranking?
By adamsmith
One of the important factors in ranking well on search engines such as Google is ensuring that you have a number of links pointing from other websites to your website. Website links can be a confusing thing. There are many terms used to describe them including one way links, reciprocal links, backlinks, inbound links. But to explain what I'm talking about here, lets say you own ACME Shoe Sales, and you are on another website say www.great-aussie-footwear.com and you see a link that says "Visit ACME Shoe Sales" and you click on it - and it takes you to the ACME Shoe Sales, then this helps the ranking of ACME Footwear (*ACME Shoe Sales – editor).
This type of link is called an "inbound link" to ACME, or confusingly, is sometimes referred to as a Backlink for the ACME website. These backlinks or inbound links tell Google that someone else thinks that your website is worth linking to. If lots of people think your website is important enough to create a link to, then this tells the search engines that your website must be important.
So how do you get these links to your website?
Well, there are many ways to do this including posting messages to forums with links to your website, listing your business in online directory websites, getting business partners to link to you, paying people for links (a risky practice these days), and "Reciprocal Links" where you agree to link to someone if they link to you. Many people still exchange links with others hoping that they will rocket to the top of the search results because "their cousin who's an IT guy told them that was how to get ranked on Google".
Reciprocal links - will they help?
The answer is yes and no. A few years ago, reciprocal linking alone would get you ranked well on the search engines. The problem was that everyone figured this out and so many professional SEO companies abused the practice and setup massive reciprocal linking programmes - have you ever got one of those spammy emails from people asking you to link to them if they link to you? The practice is still alive and well. Give the disproportionate number of links that various websites ended up obtaining by the practice, the search engine companies caught on that most of this was an artificial practice, and they started to discount the value of links pointing to websites where that website linked back to the linking partner.
So they won’t help?
The answer is yes, and no. There are two benefits you get from a link from someone else's website that points to your website.
- a) Referral benefit
- b) Ranking benefit
By this we're talking about the fact that if someone is on the other website, and they come across your link and they click on it - well they arrive at your website. If the place they found your link was on a site that is somehow related to your business (if you sell shoes, they may have been on an orthopaedics website, or a price comparison website showing different footwear available for purchase in your country) then they may well be interested in shoes and so this could be a valuable website visitor. If they found your link on an online gambling website and clicked on it by mistake - well clearly there is limited benefit you receive from their visit. So typically speaking, referral benefit is strong when the link comes from a related website that is not competitive in your field (if you sell pillows, think bedding websites; if you sell tyres, think car websites, etc).
Ranking Benefit
Ranking benefit is what we discussed earlier where the search engines will recognise this link as a vote of your websites importance and give you weighting / ranking for this.
So back to Reciprocal Links - will they help?
The answer is yes and no… but this time, we'll try to answer the question I promise! If a website owner approaches you who has a website that is related to your industry but not competitive to your business, and you think that people on their website may be the right sort of target audience who you'd like to have come to your website, then by all means exchange links with them. Forget about the search engine ranking issues - if this business attracts people who are the sort of people who would buy or deal with your organisation (i.e. same area, same interests, same product category) then having a link from their site to yours has enough inherent value to exchange links. Same applies to whether a link should go on your website. Are your visitors going to find it interesting? Will it add value to their experience of your website? If so - go for it.
If a website from an overseas website approaches you but you don't sell to overseas customers, or if a website from an unrelated industry approaches you, then don't exchange links in the hope they will deliver strong rankings. On the issue of ranking, there is still much debate in the SEO industry about whether any rank is achieved from exchanging links. My personal view based on our SEO experience is that a small number of link exchanges with high quality "authoritative" websites in your industry will help to some extent. Be careful though, as linking out to a range of useless link partners who have sites filled with thousands of spammy links could actually hurt your rankings. If the person asking you to exchange links fits this category don't do it.
