Internet marketing is a term often confused. Let's face it, slapping up a website and sticking Google AdSense ads on it, is not really marketing is it? Unfortunately every method or system to make money via the net tends to be lumped under the term "internet marketing".

No matter, because it's not the systems you choose to work with that will make you successful beyond your wildest dreams. It's not the software you use or the ebooks you read that will make you rake in the cash. It's certainly not the forums you frequent and the amount of time you spend idly daydreaming about how much you'll make… eventually. But then that much you knew.

So what is (in my humble opinion) the number one factor in making your chosen home based career a success. Well, it’s discipline, it’s focus and most of all it's the ability to stick at one thing until you have success with it.

How many times have you started off on one course of action, full of enthusiasm, dollar signs in your eyes only to get distracted. Another bright and shiny offer comes into view, another "guaranteed" way to make money and you're off again.

Someone once told me that success is like an outside of a sphere and we are at the centre of it. If you keep going in the same direction, eventually you'll see success. If you keep changing direction then of course you're doomed to stay in the sphere going around and around never achieving your goals. This is so true!

If you want to roll a car down a hill (metaphorically speaking!) and all you do is give one a little push before moving onto another, they're never going to get down that hill! If you stick to the one car and keep pushing and pushing, then… yep, it's going to go Rollin'!

Alright, that last metaphor was a bit ropey but I hope you see my point. Keep moving in the right direction and eventually you'll see success. But how do we know which is the right direction? Look around forums, follow other marketers and see what they do.

Don't copy their work, merely their techniques, apply them to a niche of your own choosing. If it's working for them, then you can make it work for you. What one man can do, another can do.

It's not the particular system or method that's the problem, it's your dedication. How much do you really want it? How much do you want to escape the daily grind? The power is in your hands - make a decision today to start your own venture.

Define Two Basic Types SEO

For your online business to be a success, you need traffic. You need visitors actively searching for the product or service you’re selling. This is especially true if you're involved in search engine marketing (SEM). Search engine optimization is ultimately about optimizing your site so that it gets the maximum targeted traffic from the search engines, but getting it right can be difficult. So how does it work? In practical terms, SEO is of two basic types: on page and off page.

On page refers to how you organize your actual web pages in terms of your keywords. This involves matters of keyword density, the terms you put in the various html tags and headers, and the names you give to your pages and internal links.

Off page refers to your site's relationship with the rest of the internet, in other words, the links it has to websites and directories. These links, whether to other sites or to directories, are seen as a vote for your site. This evolved from Google being based on the academic writing model which judges the worth of a text by the number of citations it has from other texts.

So what does this mean for you in practical terms?

Firstly, you need to optimize your web content thematically around relevant keywords that people are actually searching for. Then the visitors to your site are more likely to be interested in your product or service. This requires keyword research expertise. This work is complex and best contracted to search engine optimization companies and SEO agencies.

Then you need to build your web content around these words and phrases while keeping the text natural and interesting. In this regard, the content of your site is probably the most important factor for a successful SEO strategy.

Another thing to do is regularly update your website with fresh content. The aim is to provide a valuable user experience. The search engines reward sites that continually update their content by giving them higher rankings. Plus, the internal linking of your site can influence your SEO status. At the end of the day, the websites that achieve a lasting SEO success are ones that give the searcher what he wants, in other words, relevant content.

What Do You Want To Communicate During Web Site Design

Okay, you're at the point where you know basically what your web site is about. You also understand your audience. Now it's time to figure out what you are trying to tell your audience. What message or messages are you attempting to deliver?

What I usually do at this stage of the game is get a blank pad of paper and a good pen, go to the park (assuming it's a nice day) or someplace quiet and think. Another good place is the local library, although the office conference room will do in a pinch.

The idea is to stay away from a computer. You don't want to have any temptations near you at all. No terminals, no keyboards, no internet access, no email. Nothing. Why not? Because this stage of the game has nothing to do with the internet or computers. I've also found it's much easier to think without distractions like a ringing phone or a demanding email program.

So think about what you are trying to communicate. This is probably one of the most important parts of the design process. Do it right at the beginning and your web site will just come together by itself. Mess it up now, and you may find yourself making endless changes and fighting it for a long period of time.

I've found it's best to start from general terms (this is referred to top-down design) and work my way to the specifics. For example, let's say I have decided to make a web site about domestic cats and my audience is cat owners. All right, what am I trying to tell these cat owners?

I might begin by saying, well, I want to teach them some of the tricks that I have learned to make cat ownership more fun and fulfilling. I might also want to sell them some products (that is a form of communication) as well. In addition, I may want to stress ethical treatment of animals.

Now I can start putting this together in an outline or list or whatever you like. This is a thinking process, so just write down whatever you feel is important in as organized a manner as is appropriate. What you are doing is trying to get your thoughts organized and written down - this is nothing formal and it definitely does not need to be seen by anyone else. Formal design comes later, this is more of a high level analysis.

I might wind up with a list of things to teach my visitors about cats. The idea here is to give people some information which makes the site valuable for them. This is important regardless of whether or not the site is commercial - you must give people something of value or they will not remain at your site, they will not come back and they will not recommend to anyone else.

You may also start to consider briefly how you are going to communicate your messages. Think a little bit about graphics, sounds and other multimedia at this point. Staying with the cat example, I might want to include a chart of cat breeds with a picture of each breed, along with a description and favorite food. I may also want to include video or sounds to communicate better. Remember, you are not creating the web site or it's contents at this time - you are defining the boundaries.

Define the limits to what you want to discuss on your site. Current information? Daily or weekly tips (perhaps an ezine)? Historical data? Photo albums? How detailed do you want to get? How general? If you are selling something, how are you going to tie your content to your site?

Remember to always tie back your decisions to your goals and to your audience. Are these things that your audience would want to know? Does all of this information fit in with the site goals and objectives? In other words, if you are creating a web site about cats, you probably do not want to include articles and pictures from your skiing trip - unless, of course, you have a cat that skis.

Write down your thoughts and organize them as necessary. Then go home and come back the next day. Repeat the process. Do this as often as necessary until it just feels like it's done. I've found it's usually good to do this several times over several days.

Don't spend an outrageous amount of time on any of this. The whole process for a good sized web site should only take a few afternoons. Remember, you are defining in general what you are communicating. The specifics come later.

When you are finished, you will find that the remainder of the web site analysis and design process will go much smoother. And it should - you know what you are trying to communicate. That sure makes it easier to do so.

Make Your Article Marketing Effective By Controlling These Things

As an affiliate marketer, there are certain things that are beyond your control. You cannot control what your customers think. Sure, you can influence what they think, but in the end, they're in control and make the final decisions.

You also cannot control economic factors, what's going on in the marketplace, recessions, stagflation, and the like. However, you can control your efforts, as pertains to your business. You can control your article writing efforts, those content pieces you get out to the public.

To ensure that your article marketing program remains effective you have to be consistent with your article output, consistent with the quality of your articles, and consistent as a trustworthy updater of information. Doing these three things will go a long way in making your article marketing program pay dividends for your business.

Consistency in article output means writing articles on a regular basis. It means writing them, to keep your name and links distributed on the web, even when you don't feel like writing them. The reason for this is you want to get as much exposure for yourself as possible. This also means seeing your articles get into hard-copy newsletters that are widely circulated.

You do not want to send out a few articles that promote links back to your website as a one-time deal. That will not build the traffic you need. You may get a few clicks back to your site with those few articles, but it will not be regular traffic.

Regular traffic you can count on happens when readers see your articles regularly on the web. They get used to seeing your name, your links, and your writing style. They look forward to the information you provide, when you do it well. They will even seek you out. When they see that you are a regular article contributor, they know they can reference you regularly for more information. That's why you need to be consistent in your article output.

Consistency in the quality of your articles is of paramount importance. Your readers want informative, relevant, timely content that answers their questions. They do not want sales talk, or basic information that they already know. They want detailed information that enlightens and teaches them. Readers know quality when they see it.

They also know when they're being given a raw deal so-to-speak. When they read fluff, they get cranky because they know they have just spent their time to no gain. They gained no new knowledge, and received no solutions to their problems. They will not seek your articles again, or link back to your website for more information.

Why is that? The reason is that you are not a credible information supplier to them. You have not connected to them with your content. When you do not provide quality information, consistently, you lose your readers to someone else who does. That's why your article content has to be of high quality. You want readers linking back to your website, where your affiliate products are, for even more information.

Consistency as a trustworthy updater of information means getting your readers the latest news, data, and views on your area of expertise. This is different from being a consistent provider of quality articles in the sense that you go beyond basic quality.

In other words, you can provide articles full of quality content that will always help your reader concerning a subject. This is quality information that is not time-sensitive. Some products and subject areas have detailed information that is always relevant. Readers new to a subject will always need this type of content. You should write great articles to meet their needs.

However, you need others to see you as someone they can trust to keep them "in the know" about new issues concerning your subject area and products that relate to it. When your readers can trust that you will always have fresh content that speaks to them of innovations, findings, and new directions concerning the subject they're interested in, then you have a reader for life. This is where you are a trustworthy updater on top of a quality content provider. You are always giving readers new information.

Consistency in the above three areas is something you can control in your article marketing program. You are responsible for regular output. You are responsible for quality content. You are responsible for updating that content as often as needed. You control all these things and need to continue to do it to grow your affiliate business.
